Submit Your Site to Google

As soon as you register your domain name, submit it to Google! Even if you haven't built your site, or thought about your content, submit your domain name to Google. In fact, even if you haven't fully articulated your business plan and marketing plan, submit your domain name to Google.

Don't wait!

There are two reasons for this. Firstly, getting on the search engines has always taken a long time for a new site. Even assuming you do everything right, it takes months before your site is even indexed, and more months before it starts to rank well. As a rule of thumb, never expect to rank highly within 6 months of submitting your site to Google.

The second reason is a recent phenomenon called 'Google Sandbox'. Many SEO experts believe that Google 'sandboxes' new websites. Whenever it detects a new website, it withholds its rightful ranking for a period while it determines whether your site is a genuine, credible, long term site. It does this to discourage the creation of SPAM websites (sites which serve no useful purpose other than to boost the ranking of some other site).

By submitting your domain name to Google as soon as you register it, you're establishing a site history even if the site has no content. By the time you've built your site and developed your content (and written your business and marketing plans), Google will probably see no need to sandbox you.

If you wait until launch day to submit your site, you'll spend a month or two (maybe more) sitting in the sandbox watching potential customers spend their money elsewhere.

How to submit your site to Google Don't waste money by paying someone else to submit your site to Google. It's easy!

Simply go to
http://www.google.com.au/addurl.html, enter your URL (domain name) and a few comments or keywords to describe your site. Then click 'Submit'. That's all there is to it. You only have to do it once, and only for your top level page (i.e. Home page).

Google's robots will then crawl your website the next time they're out and about. Of course, they don't guarantee that you'll be included in their results.

IMPORTANT: As mentioned above, it takes quite a while for your site to appear in the search engines. This is partly because the search engines are big and slow - especially when it comes to new sites. It will take a minimum of 6-8 weeks before your site is indexed.

How To Immediately Increase Your Adsense Clicks?

Would you like to make one tiny addition to your pages and dramatically increase your AdSense clicks -- perhaps as much as threefold?

It's laughingly simple, yet the effect can be immediate.

All you need is to get some colorful digital photographs, either from your own stock or from a royalty-free web site. Then using a graphics program, such, as Real Draw PRO or Photoshop, create a strip of four rectangular photographs with a space in between each. The overall size of the strip should be 728 pixels wide by about 108 pixels deep.

The content of the pictures should be relevant to the content of your web site. In order not to violate Google's Terms Of Service, you should avoid pictures that are animated, advertisements or induce the visitor to click on the AdSense ads. If you are in any doubt, take a look at the ads on my web site or check with Google's Terms Of Service.

The background color should exactly match the color of your AdSense pages. It helps if you can place a narrow blue border around the individual photo (but not around the entire strip). This arrangement is ideal for a page containing an article and the best position within the page for the picture strip is at the top of the page, immediately below the page headline, but above the start of the body text.

Once you have done this, go to your Google AdSense advert codes and select the one for leaderboard, which is 728 pixels wide by 90 pixels deep. If the 728 pixel width sounds vaguely familiar, it's the exact size of the width of your picture strip. Make sure you delete Google's border code before pasting your leaderboard code under the picture strip, save the page and load it to your server and start enjoying up to three times the clicks on that style of ad.

If you already have the maximum number of three AdSense blocks on the pages, where you insert this picture strip/leaderboard combo, do be sure to delete one of the existing ad groups, so you don't violate Google's Terms Of Service, which only allow three ad blocks per page.

Do The Appearing Act with Search Engine Optimization

Have you ever wondered how some websites manage to appear on the first page of a Google or Yahoo search?

This is not a random coincidence. A technique called search engine optimization is what helps to get such remarkable results!

This is a methodology which will elevate the ranking of your website in a search engine listing. It also helps improve the number and position of search results for a wide variety of relevant keywords. Now this might seem difficult or confusing. But the truth is that all you need is to pick up some skill and Voila! …

Take down a few handy tips and watch the magic.

Avoid awkward designs - This is for all you people who love website frames, flash, JavaScript, image maps or dynamic URL’s. You have a problem here!

§ Search engines are poor at indexing framed sites. Try to do away with the frames for better listing. But should you necessarily need to use frames, then the best thing you can do is use the tag.

§ Dynamic URL, flash, image maps or JavaScript also come in the way of a higher listing.

Select relevant keywords - Your choice of keywords is very important as these will be used throughout the entire search engine optimization process. Choose the wrong keywords and bingo, you’re nowhere to be found in the listing. Using specific key phrases will help your website cater to a larger target audience.

Write a proper title tag - Take care with the way you write the title and meta tags. This is what search engines generally use as the heading of a website while listing it in the search results. The length of the title tag should be anywhere between 50 - 80 characters including spaces. Including the key word in the title enhances the search engine optimization process.

Optimize your site’s copy - 'Copy' here means the actual text that a visitor to your website would read. For best results, it is advisable that each page you submit has at least 200 words of copy on it. This text should include the most important keyword phrases, if possible multiple times, yet remain logical & readable.

Don’t ignore images - Each image on your web page offers the opportunity to include a keyword phrase in the title or description. While this does not work on all search engines, it certainly does not hurt, so we recommend you give it a shot wherever you can!

Do not spam! - While spamming can help you get listed higher on a search engine, never try to use this trick. Search engines can detect spam and your site might be blacklisted by them.

A couple of other tips which might aid the search engine optimization process are the following:

Wire the hyperlinks - Search engines act weird at times! They think that if you have a link going out from your page then it’s likely that the hyperlinked page is related to the content on your page. This is why they look for keywords in the hyperlinks and any text immediately surrounding them. Therefore try to include your most important keyword phrases in the hyperlink. Again, make sure the links and surrounding text are still readable and continue to make sense even after including a keyword phrase or two.

Tweak the headings - HTML heading tags can also help improve your website’s ranking. Since they are headings, search engines tend to think that they are closely related to the content on the page. Try to include your most important keyword phrases in heading tags.
