Articles on Writing Matters:

How to Write Good Articles?

Writing articles can be fun. In fact writing articles can be the very first step you can take in writing your very first book. If this is your very first time trying to write an article, here are a few simple tips for you.

The first step in trying to write an article is think of a topic of your interest. Make sure this topic is something you are familiar with. Familiarity would mean that you have a certain amount of experience coupled with relevant knowledge dealing in it. It would be wise to take note and make sure your skills and knowledge are up-to-date. If you have been out of the circle for about 5 years, you can be sure some of the experiences you have gain 5 years ago is no longer valid. So don't forget to do an up-to-date research on your topic.

Second step is to take notes of what you want to write. An article cannot be too general. It must be more specific targeted at a specific niche market. For example, if you want to write a topic on Finance, it is a very wide and general topic in itself. Narrow it down to, for example, personal finance, corporate finance, etc. Even these topics can be broken down to further smaller sub-topics. The success of your article depends on how niche your topics can be targeted at. Keep your articles about the right size. Articles are usually short and about 2,000 to 5,000 words. Certain articles could stretch as much as 10,000 words but that is pushing it a little, remember you are not writing a thesis. However if your article is too short you may not have enough of a story to tell.

Third step is to create an article structure. (1) Introduce what you want to write. Give a small introduction, maybe a little about your background. Don't over write about yourself. Remember it is not about you, it is about your story. (2) The body. That is where your story comes in. This is where you organise your collation of notes and start writing them down. A tip to powerful articles. If you can invoke emotions, your article is going to stand out. (3) The close. A lot of bad article writers fail at this juncture simply because there is no close. This would lead the whole article into an anti-climax. You can be writing an excellent story in the middle but you do not have a powerful close, your audience are not going to remember you much.

Forth step, get a fantastic title. In fact you can actually think of a title first but I normally would like to keep it right at the end because by then all your contents will have been ready and you can fully and solely think about branding it. Remember, branding your title is very important, as important as a book title. Always think like a reader. What do readers look for. Catchy titles. They use to say don't judge a book by the cover, well unfortunately in the world we are living these days' we do not have much time for browsing. So, give it a title to remember, give it an everlasting impact. Brand your title.

Final Step. Check for grammatical errors. Easier said than done. I use to have a lot of grammatical errors in the past and I do not have a good command of English. But with practice, it can only get better. I am still not perfect yet but I am striving to be, that is my moto. Too many grammatical errors in your article can spell doom for you. Best way to get out of this mess is to get an editor, someone whose command of English is much better than you. This is because your image is on that article. What you  write, says a lot about who you are. So be very careful.

The Easier Way to Write Articles

Many articles are also beneficial to both company and its traffic. When the readers like the articles, they would tell more of their friends, family and peers and recommend your site to them, providing for a larger volume of traffic. You get bigger sales if your traffic trusts and believes in you. Your product or services would be much easier to sell when they know you know what you are doing and talking about.
So ok, we have established that articles are very important to a site and to business. Articles are crucial and to keep ahead in the game, a site must have an article, it is imperative. There is one dilemma though, not many people like writing articles.
Many website owners would rather spend their time on something else, and unless you're a big time company, you don't have the necessary resources to use on a pool of article writers. Plagiarism or copying of other articles is frowned upon and could easily get you into trouble, worst case scenario; a hefty fine and jail time.
So what are the other options?
Well, for starters if you hate writing articles and you can't afford to hire people to write for you then don't. Get free articles. The first place to look at for free articles is the public domain. Here you won't have problems with copyright infringement and the following penalties and fines if you get caught for plagiarism.
Public domain articles are articles freely given to the public for public use. You can do whatever you want with it. You can place it on your site, name it as yours, put it in a newsletter its you decision. Always remember though that you will have to choose articles that is very relevant to your site.
The downside to public domain articles is that since it is free for everybody, many of your competitors may have access to them as well. Since every site needs to be original and unique even though you have the same niche, this could be a predicament. You may also have to edit them a bit to place more keywords and keyword phrases to make them better.
Another way to get free articles is to allow other sites which has the same subject or topic as yours to submit articles to your site. This would be only to augment your existing content or else all your articles would be leading to other sites since these articles would have resource boxes with them that could link or direct the readers to their site. That's why it is important to have your own articles; you cold use them to link your site to other sites as well.
But, to truly feel the impact of what a good article to you, go for original ones. There are many article writers who do part time and freelance article writing jobs that charges only minimal fees. You can get good articles that have all the keywords and keyword phrases you need and people are looking for.
The investment you made for these articles would be worthwhile because you could use them for all the benefits you could offer. You hold copyrights to them and you will be able to use them anyway you want. As your articles help you in building your business and your site, you will have more articles to write and maybe then you wont be having second thoughts about articles.

I wrote twenty articles last week. Do you want to know why?

For many years now I have been looking into the best ways of promoting a website. This has lead me down some dark alleys and has cost me a lot of money, most of which it has to be said has been wasted. I have listened to many so called experts on the subject and have been left frustrated a great many times. I was even about to give up on my dreams of being an online success but I then discovered the power and benefits of writing articles.

As you may have seen from the title of this article, I wrote twenty articles last week. The reason why I did this is quite simple, it is a proven way of attracting additional visitors to your website. I have been writing articles for about sixteen months and the results have been quite staggering. It works on the basis of obtaining one-way links to your site. Many people will tell you that the more backward links that point to your site the better and this is a great way of attracting these backward links. My main website (stammering-stuttering.co.uk) now has around twelve thousand links pointing to it and has reached a page rank of six.

There are long and short term benefits of writing articles. In the short term you are likely to gain traffic to your site from some of the people who read the articles. The websites that include the article on their site will also pass the page rank value from that particular page onto your site, thus giving you a slight boost up the search engine rankings. Over the longer term it only takes one or two of these sites that included your article to become authority type sites, and to reach a high page rank for your site to gain huge benefit from its increase in page rank. For example when a site decides that it likes your article and wants to include it on their site they are likely to build a new page for the article, this page will then have a page rank value of zero. After lets say four years this site may become a pr6 and the page rank will pass down throughout the whole site. The page your article appears may at that point be a page rank five or a page rank four. This now becomes a very powerful one-way link pointing to your site.

I speak to many people each week about web marketing and most of them have heard about article marketing as it is known. I hear so much negativity about it, comments like, I have heard it does not work because of duplicate content etc. How many articles have these people ever written? Answer, none. They should at least try it before dismissing it, but have a guess why they do not even do this, because they are too lazy thats why. Yes it is time consuming and even boring, on a personal basis it takes me about an hour and a half to write and submit just one article, but because I know it works and because I want to be a success, I am happy to invest my time in writing articles.
